"Care less about what other people think. We care so much about what other’s think that it can often leave us paralyzed." Jessica Ortner

Jessica Ortner is a producer of The Tapping Solution, a documentary film on EFT/Meridian Tapping. She has led more than 3,000 women on a weight loss and body confidence journey through her online program, as well as hosting The Tapping World Summit, an online event which has attracted more than 500,000 attendees from around the world. She is also a New York Times best selling author.

Whoa! Is there anything you don't do, Jessica? You go girl!

Every Ella:    Tell us about yourself and your background.

Jessica Ortner: I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and my family immigrated to the US when I was a baby. I grew up in Brookfield, CT.  I ended up opting out of college (my mom wasn’t happy) and teamed up with my brother to create a documentary film that later became a great success… so my mom forgave me about the college thing [Laughs}.

How did The Tapping Solution begin?

Our company, The Tapping Solution, first began with an idea to make a movie. We had been reading about and using a stress relief technique called Tapping. Tapping is a stress relief technique that incorporated the meridian system. Thousands of people were getting incredible results and we wanted to create the movie to show people the power they have to relieve their own stress and anxiety.

What were your initial goals with The Tapping Solution and have your goals changed with time?

The goal was always to help others and it still is. So many of us suffer from anxiety and we may not have the financial resources to seek outside help. Once you know how to use this stress relief technique, it is always yours to use. I love that about tapping!

Did you think the documentary would take off like it did?

The truth is that it didn’t take off right way and I thought it would! I struggled with feeling disappointed when the movie was first released until I realized we needed to simply be more innovative. We came up with an idea to do a free online event called The Tapping World Summit. We studied online marketing, made connections with other people in the industry and when the event launched 50,000 people showed up online. My dream wasn’t achieved in the manner I imagined. It was a lesson to not give up and be innovative.

Can you explain what The Tapping Solution is and how it works?

Of course! I have a video that includes all of the information. Check it out!

You also wrote a book based on the The Tapping Solution for weight loss and body confidence. Can you tell us a little about that?

I suffered with yo-yo dieting for many years and I thought I could just hate myself skinny. It’s a strategy so many women use. It’s easy to take care of something we value, but most of us don’t value our bodies. Instead we spend time judging them. I created an online course that addressed topics like the impact of stress on weight gain, emotional eating and body confidence. Over 3,000 women went through the course. Their stories inspired me to write a book that later became a New York Times Best Seller. I still can’t believe it!

You're the host of The Tapping World Summit where you conduct interviews. Busy girl! What has been your favorite interview so far?

It’s so hard to pick one! I learn so much from each experience.

Personally, how how the tapping solution changed your life?

Tapping has changed the way I show up everyday. Emotional health is the foundation to any success. It’s hard to thrive when anxiety and emotions like worry overwhelm you. It doesn’t mean I never experience those emotions, but with tapping I have the power to let them go.

What is the best part of being a girl boss?

The best part is the friends I’ve made. Most of my friends are entrepreneurs and we all cheer each other on. There is no jealousy or competition because we know there is room for all of us to bloom in our unique way.

What would you say to other girls who are thinking of launching their own idea or company?

My advice would be to be flexible and learn along the way. You don't need to have every step figured out before you start. Action sparks clarity. Take the action first and the next step will become clear.

What's been your most rewarding moment with The Tapping Solution?

The stories I receive of people transforming their lives by using tapping is by far the most rewarding.

Name one woman who has inspired you.

The author Cheryl Richardson has been a big mentor to me. I loved her books way before I ever had the chance to meet her. Once she told me “space is always the answer.”  If you don't know what to do, give yourself a break, give yourself some room. It’s only when we feel calm and centered that the ideas come. You can’t panic your way to the right answer. Why do you think the best ideas come in the shower?!

What's one piece of advice you would give girls today?

Care less about what other people think. We care so much about what other’s think that it can often leave us paralyzed. The truth is, everyone else is occupied with their own thoughts, worries and doubts! Stop wasting your time wondering what someone else thinks of you. When we do that, it becomes easier to hear the messages from our own heart.

Tell us about The Tapping Solution Foundation.

Both my brothers live in Newtown, CT, so when the school shooting occurred in Sandy Hook, we created a foundation to help support the community. Tapping has made a big difference in an orphanage with genocide survivors in Rwanda. We took that model and began to apply it in Newtown. It has since spread to different places around the world.
